 After Mitch, the 2nd deadliest hurricane on record, caused over 11,000 fatalities in Central America and many children lost their families. A dedicated couple in Santa Barbara, Honduras opened their home to a handful of these orphaned kids and continued to add as the need arose.
The home expanded to a k-12 school. The children grew up and some remain to help their younger “brothers & sisters”. Today, the La Alborada School & Children’s Home, continue to be a safe harbor for these precious lives. My father-in-law, Juan Manuel Ordoñez, visited the school last year and instantly fell in love with the children who adopted him as their ‘Abuelo’. He told us about the important work happening at La Alborada, and it was an easy decision for The Dawes Team to add them as one of our main Worthy Causes.
